A note on saving
Saving from apps that aren't Safari
Most of what you mean to read does not start in Safari. It shows up in a newsletter, a group chat, a feed. If an app can share a link, it can send that link to Note That Down. Here is where the button hides in the usual places.
Newsletters in Mail or Gmail
Most newsletters have a "View in browser" or "Read online" link near the top. Open it, then tap Share in the browser. Saving the web version gives us the full post, not a clipped email. Substack posts also have a Share button in the Substack app.
X, Threads, and Bluesky
Tap the share icon on a post that links to an article, and choose Share via, or Share, to reach the iOS share sheet. If the post is the thing you want, open the linked article first and share that. We summarize articles, not posts.
Reddit and Hacker News
Open the linked article, then share it from the browser view. Sharing the discussion thread saves the thread, which is rarely what you want to read tomorrow.
YouTube
Tap Share under the video, then scroll the row of apps to Note That Down. It shows up in your letter with its title, channel, and a link.
Messages and WhatsApp
Press and hold a link a friend sent you, and choose Share. It is the quickest way to clear the pile of links people send you with "you have to read this".
When Note That Down is missing from the list
The share sheet shows a short row of apps at first. Swipe to the end of the row and tap More. Find Note That Down, turn it on, and drag it toward the top so it is the first app in the row next time.
When there is no Share button
Copy the link, open Note That Down, and paste it on the Save tab. It goes into the same queue and arrives in the same letter.
